Bernie ][ The Rescue Keyboard Layouts

v1.2.5 or later

You'll find 5 different keyboard layouts in this folder. You can install all of the keyboard layouts at once.

1. Quit all applications - make sure only the Finder is active.
2. If you have already an older Bernie layout installed, please remove it first from the System
suitcase. (That is, double-click the System suitcase and remove the "Bernie ][" layout.)
3. Move the desired keyboard(s) layout to your System Folder.
(It will then be moved automatically to the System suitcase.)
4. Launch Bernie
5. Open the Preferences window and click the third tab (miscellanous settings)
6. Activate "Remember Last keyboard Layout"
7. Choose a layout from the keyboard menu on the Mac's menu bar

Whenever you quit Bernie or put Bernie into background, it will check the keyboard layout you have been using and then restores the original layout (i.e. the one you are using "outside" of Bernie.) Upon launching Bernie again or making it the front application, the layout will be resurrected.

Since Bernie no longer looks for a particular layout (i.e. resource ID), you can choose any keyboard that is available from the keyboard menu. If you do not see a keyboard menu on the menu bar (on the right side next to the Applications menu) or a keyboard is missing, please open the "Keyboard" control panel on the Mac and enable the missing layout(s).

Technical Information

The keyboard layouts have been assigned arbitrary resource IDs that should not interfere with existing layouts. They are:

 Bernie ][ - U.S.: #902
 Bernie ][ - British: #903
 Bernie ][ - Dvorak: #904
 Bernie ][ - French: #905
 Bernie ][ - German: #906

Our thanks go to Bill Robins for providing some of the above layouts.

Enjoy!
